The classroom training is as important as the skills and learning gained through real life experiences. One teaches experience through knowledge gained from others experiences which is recorded in books whereas the other let’s one apply the knowledge acquired through books in real life situations. Classroom training doesn’t present a handbook to students to apply in real life experiences, but it certainly enhances a student’s skills to find solutions to real-life challenges more creatively.
Humans are natural learners – and they learn best when they perform the tasks they are trying to learn. Now matter how good their grades were at college, most of their learning takes place once they enter the workplace and start applying what they learnt.
Grooming students with skills for practical application of knowledge gained through books is a methodology that is being covered widely among the best MBA colleges in India. Few MBA colleges in Ahmedabad were pioneers in teaching students using Case-study examples, which help students equip skills and traits required to handle real-life situations. What is learnt in classroom may not completely match with real life scenarios, however, the traits patience, ability to motivate and manage
Books and course materials are rich resources to study the greats minds and subject experts, and then put their teaching into practice. While studying the greats is essential, it is more of a passive exercise. In order to gain from it, one needs to apply that learning to ones own work as well.
Institutes have also initiated applications of innovative techniques of providing experience to students by using techniques of drama and role-play in classroom, which is a great way of learning real life problems in real time scenario. Many good BBA & MBA institutes in the country are using techniques like Case study method, project work and simulations as the main pedagogical tools for reinforcing the learning and it’s prospective application in real-time scenario.
Many may argue that textbooks can only cover few situations where as real life challenges are a combination of many other complex situations. That is true to some extent, books cannot recreate the exact situation a manager may face in real life, nor can it recreate the multi-fold emotions he may go through whilst dealing with the situation. But using the modern teaching and learning techniques, institutes are giving students a glimpse of how they should react in a particular situation but when the situation arises in real-life, it is up to the student how he wishes to handle the situation and wishes to apply the learning received in college.
There are few skills which though are though in college can only be harnessed in real life. Things like performing under pressure, standing on one’s grounds, sticking to the ethical route and one’s principles, empathizing towards fellow team members, motivating fellow colleagues, having good communication skills, being smart worker and being a good leader; are though taught in college but it’s practiced in real life.
We can conclude the above on the note that both classroom and real life experiences hold an equal importance. The classroom teaches the basics to the students, but it’s true application lies with the student and their individual personality.
